Natural Cleaning Without Chemicals - The Green Way
76Natural Cleaning - Stay Green with Baking Soda and Vinegar
Natural Cleaning Without Chemicals
Natural cleaning without chemicals should be on everyones minds today. It is not necessary to spend money on toxic chemical cleaning supplies that endanger our environment and our health. Many of the cleaning supplies in the market today are corrosive and toxic. They poison our bodies and the environment.
If we think of what our grandparents or parents used to achieve the gleaming and sparkling look....this certainly was not done using chemical cleaners, rather natural products like baking soda and vinegar. Most households have baking soda and vinegar in their cupboards ready and able to take on the added tasks of cleaning.
We are diluged with chemical cleaners by advertisers and most people believe this is the only way to keep our homes clean and our food safe to eat. Nothing could be further from the truth. These chemicals find their way into our bodies through aborption into our skin, inhaling into our lungs and digestion into our stomachs. We know for sure these chemicals will only harm us, yet we accept the risk to both ourselves and our environment. Here are some easy ways to use house hold products to replace chemicals in your home.
Natural Cleaning With Baking Soda
Natural Cleaning Without Chemicals Using Baking Soda
Natural Cleaning With Baking Soda can be very effective in the following ways:
Whitening our teeth - can be used by itself or with toothpaste. I would start with pouring a little baking soda into the palm of your hand and mixing a few drops of water to make a paste, cover the bristles of our toothbrush and begin to gently scrub your teeth. If you find the taste too appaulling, try putting a little toothpaste on your brush first and then cover with the baking soda paste. Be sure to rinse thoroughly after you complete the brushing. You can do this at least once a week and will be able to see the difference in the way your teeth look and feel. It leaves you with an amazing clean feeling mouth.
A baking soda rinse is also good to use if you have any sores in your mouth; it will draw out the infection and/or have healing properties on the sores. SImply add a table spoon of baking soda to a glass of warm water, stir until disolved. Then thoroughly rinse your mouth and gargle for a few minutes. Repeat several times a day and you find this will help immensely.
To polish and clean our stainless steel sinks without the abrasiveness of scratching, sprinkle a generouse amount of baking soda over the sink and wet down with small amount of water; then, using a soft cloth begin to scrub away the dirt (add additional water if necessary); rinse with hot water and see the amazing sparkling clean sink, all without the use of chemicals.
Are you suffering from aching muscles? Soak in a tub filled with warm water and baking soda for 20 minutes and you will experience relief. I would recommend at least a half cup of baking soda.
We can use baking soda to clean our ovens and or stove tops (not ceramic or self cleaning) and/or pretty much anything that has adhered itself and needs a little elbow grease to remove. Sprinkle baking soda over soiled area and slowly pour over vinegar, just enough to see it fizz and make a paste. Leave on for a few minutes and if neccesary add additional vinegar so it is of a workable paste, scrub with a brush, wipe off using a wet cloth, rinsing the cloth as needed until area is clean. You may have to use additional baking soda on stubborn areas.
Baking soda leaves everything sparkling clean and fresh. The best part is you are no handling any chemicals or introducing chemicals into your environment.
Natural Cleaning With Vinegar
There are several uses of vinegar in safely cleaning food and your home.
Vinegar has disinfectant properties and can be used for cleaning floors, washing windows without leaving streaks, cleaning up after our pets to disinfect the area as well as remove odours that may otherwise be left behind, relieve the itch caused by mosquito bites and also rinse our vegetables and fruit to remove any chemical or wax residues.
For the purpose of cleaning floors and washing windows, I like to use 1 cup of vinegar to 4 litres of warm water. Whether you use a sponge mop for the floors or a squeegie for the windows, the best part is you don't have to use gloves to protect your hands from harsh chemicals. You'll be amazed at how clean your glass will look absolutely streak free,
To clean up after pets, it's best to pat down area first with a dry or damp cloth to remove as much of the liquid waste as possible; poor vinegar directly onto the area and if carpet, or cloth material, let soak for a few minutes and then pat down to remove the excess liquid, pour water over the area and pat down to remove excess moisture. As a precaution, you may sprinkle the area with baking soda and let sit for several hours before vacuuming to absorb risidual odors.
For mosquito bites (do not use if skin has been broken); apply a generous amount of vinegar onto a cotton pad or cotton ball and rub over the mosquito bite; if extremely itchy you may wish to hold the cotton ball or pad on the bite for a minute. It will almost instantly relieve the itching!
To remove the chemical residue from our fruit and vegetable, use about a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of vinegar in a sink full of cold water and let the produce soak for at least 5 minutes, drain and rinse off with cold water and enjoy!
Now go and enjoy clean healthy living, and return your cleaning products back to the store. You really don't need them.

Carcro: Thank you for the environmentally friendly hub on green cleaning. Baking powder works really well for the wash too.
Voted up, etc.,
Derdriu
Awesome hub, thanks for sharing the info :-)
Yes, you're right, carcro. Baking soda and vinegar are kitchen's secrets for cleanliness without using hazardous chemicals. It will always bring back the luster of kitchen equipment or utensils.
Thanks for sharing.
Nice hub carcro. I've been using vinegar and baking soda instead of chemicals, for years. They clean almost anything. They make a very good drain cleaner too, as long as it's just a bit slow, and not clogged.
I also find vinegar works great at removing the discoloration you sometimes get, inside some stainless steel saucepans after making pasta, or tomato sauces.
Also, you didn't mention one of the best reasons to use these products...they're dirt cheap, a small fraction of the cost of those chemical products.
This is really an interesting post..Nice
Baking soda is very versatile. I actually have a whole hub on that. Baking soda and vinegar together can do wonders for stubborn stains. Thanks for the many good tips on using environmentally friendly products. Rated up.
Carcro, I am also a great believer in using natural products for cleaning as much as possible. I find vinegar and baking soda can clean almost anything!
What I learned from your article is the idea of using baking soda for aching muscles. It sounds like it works similar to Epson Salts! I will have to try that for my feet when they get sore. Very nice hub!
I am interested in natural problem solvers. please think of more natural herbal remedies or something , just for an idea.
Okay, this baking soda idea is EXCELLENT. My kitchen sink is a mess and I hate cleaning it with the gnarly chemicals because it destroys my hands and makes my brain foggy.
I will be putting this hub to use TODAY. :)
